ABOUT THE ARTIST

Julie Headland is a New England based artist. Her paintings range from her signature portraits to her distinctive narrative works. Born in Newport, Rhode Island and raised in Annapolis, Maryland she attended The George Washington University where she studied pre-law. While preparing for a life in the law she began to take art classes at what was then called the Corcoran College of Art.  These classes in drawing, painting and printmaking became the beginning of her career as an artist and the end of her career in law. When painting she works in her studio in Westport, Connecticut.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My work is influenced by Art History and Pop Culture. I see myself standing on a line with artists that came before me and imagine my works are a back and forth conversation with those artists and their works. The narratives are playful epigrams that explore an individual, a place, a concept or even a culture. Often they illustrate a paradox or a moment that has continuity with the past, present and possibly even the future.
